A new on-road cycle lane will be constructed on the outside carriageway of State Circle from Flynn Drive to Adelaide Avenue. Construction is planned to commence in May 2010 and take approximately four months to complete. This project will complete another high priority missing link in the main on-road cycle network and contribute towards attaining The Sustainable Transport Plan for the ACT’s objective of 7% mode share of commuter trips by 2026.
The project will provide improved access for cyclists to Parliament House and the major employment areas within the parliamentary triangle, Barton and Forrest.
The project includes:
a 2 metre wide cycle lane
modifications to the traffic arrangements at Flynn Drive; between Commonwealth Avenue and Kings Avenue; between Brisbane Avenue and Sydney Avenue; at Hobart Avenue; and between Hobart Avenue and Adelaide Avenue
use of green pavement treatment at each intersection to highlight conflict zones between left turning vehicles and cyclists
widening of the pavement into the nature strip, and at some locations within the median to provide a 2 metre wide cycle lane, 3.5 metre left traffic lane and 3.3 metre wide median traffic lane
