I am pleased to announce that one of Australia’s iconic performers, Ian Moss, will headline the free entertainment at this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in Civic Square.
New Year’s Eve is always a special event in Canberra and the ACT Labor Government is again ensuring that everyone in the community can enjoy the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.
As usual there will be two prominent sites in the city centre – the family-friendly concert in Civic Square and a dance party in Garema Place.
From 7pm the main stage in Civic Square will be the place for families and music lovers of all ages to enjoy performances by Ian Moss and local Canberra bands the Bridge Between and Heuristic.
There will also be two fireworks displays, one at 9pm, and the other at midnight.
Ian Moss and his three-piece band will take to the stage before and after the 9pm fireworks display and local band Heuristic will entertain the crowd with all the latest hits later in the evening.
This is a great opportunity for parents to bring their children to Civic to enjoy the early fireworks, with Civic Square being one of the best spots to view the spectacle.
From 9pm, Garema Place will feature top local DJs counting down to midnight with all the dance hits of 2011.
A state-of-the-art pyrotechnic display will then top off the night, with the fireworks set to a soundtrack that will herald in 2012.
I would like to remind Canberrans and visitors that both the Civic Square and Garema Place events are alcohol-free to encourage a safe and friendly atmosphere.
New Year’s Eve in the City is proudly presented by the ACT Government and sponsored by Prime Television, Mix 106.3 and FM 104.7.
