Enrolling in and finding out more about the new Gungahlin College just got easier with the opening of the College’s office at the Gungahlin Marketplace today.
Interested students, their families and members of the Gungahlin community can visit the office to meet the Principal Ms Gai Beecher, enrol at the school and generally find out more.
Gungahlin College is a $72 million investment by the ACT Labor Government to meet the needs of the Gungahlin community. It is part of the Government’s drive to continue to improve public education by upgrading every school and building new schools where they are needed most.
This will be a facility for the whole Gungahlin community, providing not only a state of the art college, but also a community library, a gym and a Canberra Institute of Technology learning centre which will be available to the broader community.
I encourage anyone in Gungahlin with an interest in this great new community asset to come down to the office, meet the staff and find out more.
Gungahlin College will set the benchmark for public college education in the ACT, featuring a media centre with television and photography studios, a performing arts theatre with dance and drama studios, music and arts facilities, computer networking laboratory wireless technology, mechatronics suite, a full commercial kitchen and flexible learning hubs.
The college will also include a range of environmentally sustainable design features including an underground thermal labyrinth for natural heating and cooling.
The college is still taking enrolments with more than 230 students have already expressed an interest in enrolling in year 11 next year.
The office provides a great chance for students and their families to meet with the Principal, discuss individual student needs, get updates on progress in construction of the college and of course to enrol.
The office has been designed to welcome prospective students with visitors able to enjoy a tea or coffee in the relaxed café-style setting as they speak with staff.
It will be open between 9am-5pm on weekdays, including school holidays. It will also have occasional weekend and evening open hours. It will remain in use until January 2011.
The office is located at Suite 2, The Market Place, 30-33 Hibberson Street, Gungahlin Town Centre, telephone 6142 1000.
Year 11 students will be enrolled in the College in 2011 and Year 12 students in 2012.
