The ACT Government will provide an additional $50,000 in funding to the Tourism Industry Council (TIC) for this financial year.
The tourism industry is very important to the ACT, contributing around $1.3 billion to our economy and employing about 13,000 Canberrans.
TIC has developed, broadened its membership base and become the strong and effective voice of the tourism industry in Canberra, an industry which is itself a strong voice for this city nationally and internationally. This funding for TIC will contribute towards the further growth and development of the tourism industry in the ACT and Capital Region.
“With this funding TIC will now be able to provide advice as a first point of contact to new tourism businesses, develop an industry advice kit and web portal for new and existing businesses to more easily get information on tourism in the ACT, develop an annual state-of-the-industry survey and conduct a number of industry development programs throughout the year.
Current TIC Board representation includes the Canberra Convention Bureau, ACT and Region Chamber of Commerce, National Zoo and Aquarium, Canberra Business Council Tourism Taskforce, Qantas Airways, Clubs ACT, University of Canberra, CIT, InterContinental Hotels Group, Canberra International Airport and the National Capital Attractions Association providing a broad representation of the tourism industry.
This funding for TIC also enables Canberra to align better with the National Long Term-Tourism Strategy, a policy that provides long-term vision for the industry to maximise the economic benefit of tourism.
“TIC will provide input towards the new National Tourism Accreditation Framework, a program that establishes quality assurance for the tourism industry.
I’m pleased the ACT Government has again been able to show its firm commitment to ACT tourism by funding the industry’s peak body to provide local tourism operators with practical assistance.
