Canberra Cavalry charge into the ABL

The newest edition to Canberra’s sporting forces has a name - the Canberra Cavalry.

Canberra's Australian Baseball League (ABL) team will join the stable of elite sporting teams that represent our city around Australia and around the globe.

The Cavalry join teams such as the Brumbies, Raiders, Capitals and Darters, in showing Australians and those from further afield that Canberra is a city that loves its sport.

This is an important part of supporting local tourism operators by showing there’s more to Canberra than history and politics, that there are so many reasons to visit the city.

With the ABL beginning this year we also have a new opportunity for Canberrans to compete in sport at the national level.

This will provide even more choice in sport for Canberrans and further raise the profile of Canberra as a sporting and tourism destination.

The ACT Government has supported the Cavalry with improvements at Narrabundah Ballpark including lighting upgrades, an electronic scoreboard and improved player facilities.

The Government will also provide about $30,000 per year in sponsorship and a one-off $45,000 to help establish the team.

The new team is the result of the code, the Canberra community and the ACT Labor Government working together to build a new elite sporting team and promote physical activity.

The Cavalry’s charge into the ABL is largely the result of nearly 5,000 baseball enthusiasts and sponsors who pledged their support for the team.
