Arawang to provide 15 hours per week of pre-school in 2011

I have announced the continued roll-out of accessible and free early childhood education of 15 hours per week in the ACT, which is in line with a national agreement for all states and territories to provide universal access to early childhood education for all children in the year prior to formal schooling by 2013.

Three more ACT Government schools will commence the third phase of the rollout next year. These are Arawang Primary School, Taylor Primary School and the new Kambah P – 10 School which will open at the beginning of 2011.

Five schools including Southern Cross, Lyons, Narrabundah and Isabella Plains Early Childhood Schools and the O’Connor Cooperative School started the roll-out in 2009 and a further eight, Charnwood Dunlop, Richardson, Florey, North Ainslie, Gilmore and Ngunnawal Primary Schools and Kingsford Smith and Caroline Chisholm Schools have come on board this year.
The ACT Government recognises the importance of early childhood education and is pleased to announce that even more ACT students will benefit from 15 hours of free preschool next year.
