Affordable Housing Boost for Gungahlin

The ACT Government will bring forward the delivery of affordable houses in Gungahlin by 14 months thanks to a $9.76 million investment from the Federal Government's Housing Affordability Fund.

The funding announcement by the Federal Minister for Housing, Tanya Plibersek, which includes $7.6 million for a collector road and bus route to Crace and $2.16 million for new roads and services such as paving and stormwater infrastructure in the Gungaderra West estate in Harrison.

The investment wwill accelerate the development of serviced land in Crace and Gungaderra West and complements the ACT Government's own efforts to increase the ACT's housing stock, particularly for low income earners.

"This significant investment by the Federal Government, will allow the ACT Government to fast-track the delivery of over 1000 dwellings in Crace including 239 affordable house and land packages," Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said. "These homes will be available 14 months earlier than expected, creating more opportunities for Canberrans to enter the housing market.

The development of 138 affordable dwellings and 37 community housing properties in Gungaderra West will also be brought forward.

The ACT Government is very pleased to work in partnership with the Federal Government to fast-track the delivery of affordable homes for Canberrans.

The ACT Government has previously received $3.5 million from the Federal Government's Housing Affordability Fund to accelerate the construction of infrastructure in Bonner including a water main.

This funding helped to fast-track the release of 330 affordable house and land packages through the OwnPlace Scheme.
