New Cricket Nets For Hackett Oval

The new cricket practice nets at Hackett Neighbourhood Oval got their first test run today.

I faced a net session with 14 year-old Hackett resident Yarran Doherty and his mates.

The Government constructed the nets after Lyneham High School student, Yarran, wrote to the Government suggesting the project.

The letter discussed the need for practice nets at Hackett Oval, outlining the benefits and assuring that they would be well used by his friends and others.

New playground equipment for Ainslie School

I attended the Ainslie School fete today and had the opportunity to unveil new playground equipment that was built using funds from the ACT Government grants provided to Parent groups of every school in the ACT.

Earlier this year I was delighted to fulfil the ACT Government’s $2.1 million commitment to provide each parent group or association in every ACT school with a one-off $15 000 grant, to spend on a project or projects to improve the school.

Key questions have been identified, based on ACTPLA’s recent research and experiences. However these are intended only as a basis for discussion and suggestions about additional potential issues and policy measures are welcome.

Schools reassured on funding

I would like to assure the parents, students and staff of ACT public schools that not one cent of funding would be taken from them to fund the recommendations of the ACT Liberals and Greens Party cooked up in a committee report on school closures tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly today.

ACT Labor remains committed to upgrading every ACT public school and continuing to build new schools where they are needed in Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and further down the track in the Molonglo Valley.
