Action Plan Progress

In April 2007, the ACT Labor Government released the Affordable Housing Action Plan. Since then, significant steps have been taken to improve housing affordability and availability in Canberra.  There’s no ‘quick fix’ and no single solution but the ACT community is already starting to see the benefits of the Action Plan.

The Affordable Housing Action Plan Progress Report, brings you up to date with what’s been happening since then.  It looks at the initiatives proposed by the Affordable Housing Action Plan, and tells you what has actually been achieved against each of them.

Fact Sheets

OwnPlace – New house and land packages for under $300,000

The OwnPlace program is an innovative project in response to the ACT Government’s Affordable Housing Action Plan.  The Land Development Agency and a select panel of builders have partnered together to provide affordable house and land packages priced under $300,000 for sale in new LDA estates.

At least 15% of blocks in new LDA greenfield estates will be sold as affordable house and land packages. This represents over 180 packages in the LDA’s estates of Franklin and Bonner over the coming year.

The LDA, in conjunction with the builders on the OwnPlace panel will ensure control over the design, quality and price of the affordable land packages in LDA estates. The first of the house and land packages will be available direct from the OwnPlace builders from 1 July 2008.

The sale of OwnPlace house and land packages is restricted to those people who meet the eligibility criteria, as detailed in the Home Buyers Concession Scheme.
